Message from the Artistic Director
GET CLOSER with Sage Theatre and help us celebrate our 10th Anniversary Season!
We are excited to celebrate this milestone of turning 10 by presenting three diversely dazzling plays for your sensory enjoyment! As always, Sage Theatre will be your source for up close and personal theatrical performance in the 2007-08 theatre year. This season we will continue to embrace the intimate style that has become synonymous with Sage Theatre, creating new environments, while telling stories that will resonate through your soul.
GET CLOSER while we return to the roots of our company as we revisit the show that started it all. Judith Thompson’s Lion in the Streets is a Canadian classic that explores the dark secrets that lurk in our communities, while discovering the power of forgiveness and redemption. A powerful ensemble of local artists will bring this angry Lion to life, and into the streets of your neighborhood.
GET CLOSER with the Canadian Premiere of a play that has sparked controversy across North America. My Name is Rachel Corrie is the true story of one young woman’s passion and strength as she strives to make a difference in a messed up world. Edited from Rachel Corrie’s own writings, this one-woman tour-de-force stars local favorite Adrienne Smook will be sure to stir your heart against the backdrop of the Israeli / Palestinian conflict.
GET CLOSER and get your groove on with rock n’ roll’s internationally ignored songstress. Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a good old-fashion tale of finding love and happiness, told through the rock n’ roll stylings of the Hedwig, the angry survivor of a botched sex-change operation. Get your tickets now for the Calgary debut of this cult-classic musical, because it is sure to quickly sell-out!
And finally… GET CLOSER with the future of Calgary’s theatre community. The fourth annual IGNITE! Festival will show off the artists who will make up the landscape of Calgary’s theatre scene for years to come. This year’s festival looks to showcase up to 10 new plays and will feature close to 100 young writers, actors, directors, designers, musicians, visual artists, stage managers, and technicians.
Theatre is one of the few truly collaborative art forms, and you, the audience, is an essential part of that collaboration. So please, come collaborate with us, come celebrate with us, and come Get Closer for Sage Theatre’s 10th Anniversary season!
See ya at the Theatre!
