Nicole Graw - Frumious Fish Tales
"My work is a ghostly tale of absurdism and the confrontation between 2 opposing forces. These paintings operate within the contrasts of child-like imagery and the grotesque."
Nikki Gour - Unwanted Misconception of Emotions
"I like to take found objects that people disregard and have no use for anymore, and interpret them into new forms and giving them a whole new meaning of appreciation. With the use of mirrors in my work, I am projecting images on to the viewer by using their reflection, perhaps causing the viewer to relate to the piece by stimulating the viewers thoughts, past emotions, present feelings, ideas or future situations."
Joshua Hoiberg - Emotive Dogfight
This installation/performance piece is an exploration into the nature in which external influences define who we are and how we feel, and, when that influence is another person, how chaotic that mix can become. The audience is invited to donate paper of any kind which will be formed into model plane mobiles. The materials donated will hold great sway over the both the tone of the piece and tone of its creator.
Suggested materials include magazine clippings, art prints, photographs, monopoly money, newspaper, coupons or anything that you feel holds influence in your life.
Isidra Cruz - Insular Bones
Insular Bones is a reflection of the industrialization of Toronto. It demonstrates the coldness and hard exterior of the city’s landscape and the inhabitants. It shows us the bones of the people this city and country was founded on, the walls we have built around the literal and figurative heart of the city, and the face we present to the country and the world.
Installation concept: Isidra Cruz
Dramaturge / Original Text: Donna-Michelle St.Bernard
Sound Design: Keith Barker
Voice Over: Leah-Simone Bowen
Original Beats: Benny Stacks
In-Definite Arts Society - Mosaic
Join us as we take a playful look at 'life in Calgary' - a theme which formed the basis for a series of small drawings, paintings and fibre collages produced by In-Definite Arts' artists. Each collage features the creative and highly individualized processes of different artists with developmental disabilities. Collectively these works offer a sense of place and lived experience intersected by themes of nature, community, and identity politics.
