Linda Turnbull
Linda Turnbull is a Japanese-Canadian dancer and choreographer residing in Edmonton, Alberta. After completing her post-secondary dance education at Grant MacEwan College and Simon Fraser University, she began studying Odori, a tradition form of Japanese dance as a way to connect to her cultural roots. This movement aesthetic has influenced her in many of her choreographic endeavors. In August 2006, she performed her first solo performance, Yellow Fever at the Edmonton Fringe Festival and the Vancouver Powell Street Festival, and then later presenting Mermaid Tales as a part of the NewDance Collective for the BWDC in 2007 with fellow dance artists, Raena Waddell and Cheryl Fontaine. Linda has been an active voice in the Edmonton contemporary dance scene, promoting new works and giving guidance to emerging choreographers through Dancefest@Nextfest. Linda is also the recipient of the Northland's Emerging Artist Award at the Mayor's Evening for the Arts, 2007.
